The Documentary film titled Under the Domewas a shock. Time of the release of the film was sensitive, which was between the promulgation of the AirPollution Prevention Action Planand The Law about Prevention and Treatment of Air Pollution ,during the NPC and CPPCC sessions. The film was such a strike thatit was reproduced and watchednumerous timesin one week. Some say that it could one day rival the impact of “Silent Spring” as the turning point of the environment in China, some compare Chai to Rachel Carson.Through data analysis, however,we find the result may confirmthe point thatlong-term impact on people’senvironmental awareness of this filmis slight. As we can see from a China map depicting the search volume of the film, people in provinces which have a higherper capita incomeare more likely to take time to watch it rather than those wholive in places bearing a bad air quality.Furthermore, we count up the number of 3M masks purchases in Taobao during February and March in 2015, which indicate a tendency that after going through a burst of growth in early March, but purchases slided back in just 2 weeks. What’s more, the dataof ”12369”——the compliant hotline for environmental complaintsshows that people are still not willing to sovle the environmental problemssurroundedthemthrough this convinient path. The result is hard todemonstratethat the environmental awareness of the public was improved apparentlyafter the film.
